#161201 oil on canvas 18X24 (2016)
This painting evolved over several months. When I began working on it, I tried to compose the central focal point around a bright yellow "setting sun." When I finished the work (the first time) I found that I'd spent so much time on the sky and mountains, that the rest of the painting was just a mass of green. The frozen lake morphed from a yellow grassy field (which negated the effect of the sky) to it's final appearance. The detail in the foreground trees; the fog and the suggested path way came several months later. So the intent and composition completely changed from it's original inception to what it finally became. "There are no mistakes, just happy accidents" and this painting is a perfect example of that.
