Fifth Hole: Pebble Beach

#180401  oil on canvas 18X24  (2018)

The original 5th hole at Pebble Beach was a par 3 that played up into the property, through a cavern of over-hanging oaks and cypress to an elevated green.  It was a great golf hole; a real "tester", but fun to play. In 1998 a tract of land became  available along Stillwater Cove  and a new 5th hole was introduced; bringing the ocean into play for seven consecutive   holes (4th - 10th).. The new hole  was designed by the great Jack Nicklaus and I had the pleasure to play it during several of my rounds at Pebble. This painting is based on a 1999 photo and show's the 5th about a year after it's opening.
