Fall Impressions is a painting that began as a plein air study which I reworked and tweaked back in my studio. There's a pond near my childhood home in Quincy, Massachusetts where we used to fish in the summer and ice skate in the winter. St. Moritz pond is not a pond of much note, unless you grew up in the neighborhood, but in the fall the maples and oaks around it's banks burst with color which reflects in the dark, watery surface. Today the banks are heavily overgrown. Not much fishing or ice skating happens there anymore, but I have fond memories of times spent along it's shores as a kid.
